Rams In Derby Stalemate
Attendance: 29, 106
Despite having the better of the chances Derby County failed to take advantage and were held to a 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. After a tight first half Costel Pantilimon made saves from David Nugent and Tom Lawrence as halftime approached and then Lawrence nearly scored directly from the resulting corner but it was clawed to safety. The Rams had the better of the second half as they pushed Forest back but rarely threatened their goal and with ten minutes to go Tom Huddlestone received a second yellow as Lee Tomlin went down easily under his challenge and Derby had to settle for a point.
Ikechi Anya came back into the side and there were two youngsters, Luke Thomas and Jayden Bogle, on the bench as injuries and suspensions narrowed Gary Rowett`s options. Andreas Weimann had a shot blocked in the early stages while Lee Tomlin`s shot was deflected behind for corner and Matty Cash headed wide from the resulting corner.
Chances were few and far between as Forest saw more of the ball but The Rams easily held them at arms length and were inches away from leading at the break. Firstly Weimann got in behind the home defence and pulled the ball back but Costel Pantilimon beat away David Nugent`s effort and moments later he reacted to keep out Tom Lawrence`s low effort with his feet. Lawrence nearly scored directly from the resulting corner but Pantillimon scurried across his goal to claw the ball to safety.
The Rams began to see more of the ball after halftime but despite the pressure they rarely threatened the home goal. Andre Wisdom`s fizzed a low cross through the six-yard area with no-one able to get a touch.
Kasey Palmer and Cameron Jerome were introduced with just over twenty minutes to go and whilst Palmer looked lively they failed to threaten Pantillimon despite a number of free kicks in dangerous positions. Tom Huddlestone was shown a second yellow card after Tomlin threw himself to the floor after running past him but Derby shut up shop in the closing ten minutes to protect their point and nearly took all three but Weimann missed his kick in front of goal and the game remained goalless.
