Rams Held In Six Goal Thriller
Attendance: 17, 647
Derby County twice lost the lead as Reading came from behind to claim a 3-3 draw at the Madejski Stadium. Kasey Palmer, making his first start since joining on loan, gave his side the lead from close range on six minutes but a long range effort from Liam Kelly levelled the scores before Mo Barrow when through on goal and his low shot gave the home side the lead. Richard Keogh equalised just three minutes later to cap a topsy turvy half and Tom Lawrence`s effort thirty seconds after halftime put The Rams back in front. It wasn`t to be though as Jon Bodvarsson converted from his own rebound to level things again and Derby left with a point following a late red card for Chris Baird.
Kasey Palmer came into the side to make his first start for The Rams and, after Scott Carson made a early save from Liam Moore, he gave his side the lead on six minutes when Tom Lawrence`s shot was palmed away by Vito Mannone and he followed up to score from close range. Reading drew themselves level ten minutes later when Liam Kelly`s superb effort from outside the area found the top corner of the net beyond Carson`s dive.
With the game even both sides looked to get their noses in front and it was the home team who did so on thirty-two minutes when Mo Barrow won a loose ball and his pace took him easily past Curtis Davies and he calmly slotted home. The lead only lasted three minutes though as Lawrence`s freekick was headed on by Davies and Richard Keogh controlled the ball and found the corner of the net. Lawrence then nearly gave his side the lead with a fiercely struck freekick but Mannone clawed it to safety meaning the sides were level at the break.
The parity was broken less than a minute into the second half when Lawrence swapped passes with Palmer before beating a defender and firing low across the keeper to restore the lead for The Rams. Carson tipped over another effort from range from Kelly and Mannone easily saved from Joe Ledley as the game swung back and forth.
Cameron Jerome came then close twice in quick succession. A loose ball fell to him and his thunderous shot on the turn forced Mannone into a full length save and from the resulting corner Jerome`s header hit the bar. With just ten minutes to go Reading got themselves level again when Jon Bodvarsson`s initial effort from close range was kept out by Carson but the ball came straight back to the Icelandic striker and he bundled the ball home. There was a late red card for Chris Baird as he lunged into a tackle although it looked worthy of nothing more than a booking.
