Wasteful Rams Rescue Point
Attendance: 27, 934
Profligacy in front of goal and poor defending saw Derby County needing to rely on an injury time equaliser from Kasey Palmer to take a point from a 2-2 draw with Leeds United in front of the SkySports cameras. David Nugent and Andreas Weimann both came close before Pierre-Michel Lasogga was left unmarked to head home from close range against the run of play to give Leeds the lead. A mix-up with a defensive header gave Weimann the chance to level the scores in added time and he drove a low finish under the keeper before Nugent and Tom Lawrence had great chances but were unable to find the net. After a missed tackle saw the visitors break away to re-take the lead with just over ten minutes to go after being pinned in their own hand Derby desperately attacked to rescue a point. In added time a goalmouth scramble saw the ball fall to Palmer and he took a touch before finding the corner of the net.
Leeds started brightly and Richard Keogh had to throw himself in front of a Pablo Hernandez shot before The Rams took control and forced the visitors back. Matej Vydra nearly gave them the lead from a Tom Lawrence corner before another teasing delivery from the wide man saw David Nugget head wide at the far post. Tom Huddlestone`s first time pass found Weimann but his lofted finish ended on the roof of the net with Felix Weidwald beaten.
Against the win of play the visitors took the lead on thirty-four minutes when Marcus Olsson was caught under a cross feel pass and allowed Stuart Dallas time to cross into the box where Pierre-Michel Lasogga was completely unmarked and he headed home from close range. The Rams fought back straight away and Lawrence`s long range effort crashed against the bar before Weimann got the reward for their attacking play in added time. A mix-up between two players saw a defensive header go up in the air and the Austrian controlled the ball before firing low across the keeper and into the net to level the scores.
David Nugent had a header easily held as Derby were straight back on the attack after the break and he then quickly sliced his effort well wide when a bit of composure would have given him an easy chance after being found from Weimann`s cutback inside the area. Lawrence was next to threaten but Weidwald palmed his effort away to keep his side on level terms.
As with the first half Leeds again took the lead against the run of play when substitute Kasey Palmer`s free kick hit the wall and was cleared. Olsson missed his chance to win the ball and The Rams were caught with too many men upfield as Samuel Said found Ezgjan Alioski and, after Scott Carson saving his first effort, he stooped to head home.
The Rams desperately went in search of another equaliser and the found it just as their chance looked to have passed. Huddlestone flicked the ball up in the air and into the area and after a scramble in front of goal Palmer calmly took a touch and found the corner of the net to earn his side a point.
