Rams Back To Winning Ways
Attendance: 25, 938
Tom Huddlestone scored his first goal for Derby County, as did Cameron Jerome, as they ran out 3-0 winners over Brentford at Pride Park. After an even start the turning point came when Sergi Canos was sent off on twenty-one minutes and The Rams were two goals in front not long afterwards with Huddlestone and Jerome following up from saves by Daniel Bentley to virtually put the outcome beyond doubt. Brentford fought back during the second period and Scott Carson had to make saves from Henrik Dalsgaard and Chris Mepham but Matej Vydra tied things up from the spot after a foul on Sam Winnall to keep The Rams in second place.
Cameron Jerome came into the side to make his full debut as one of three changes with Ikechi Anya also replacing Andreas Weimann. Both sides had changes inside the opening quarter of an hour with Matej Vydra having a shot blocked before Florian Jozefzoon shot over after a poor defensive header from Richard Keogh. Sergi Canos was shown a straight red card on twenty-one minutes as he stretched into a challenge with Marcus Olsson and sent the Derby defender up into the air.
The Rams started to control the game with their numerical advantage and they edged in front on the half-hour when Jerome headed goalwards from a corner and Daniel Bentley could allow parry the effort leaving Tom Huddlestone an easy chance to convert from close range. It was 2-0 only four minutes later when Huddlestone`s chipped pass put Tom Lawrence in on goal with the ball breaking to Jerome from Bentley`s save and he found the net for his goal in a Derby shirt.
Jerome turned provider at the start of the second period as he dinked the ball across the six yard area but Vydra couldn`t get his effort on target and, with The Rams taking their foot off the gas, Brentford began to fight their way back into the match. Henrik Dalsgaard and Chris Mepham were both denied by sharp saves from Scott Carson during the spell.
Derby got back on the front foot in the closing stages with Lawrence`s swerving effort giving Bentley all kinds of problems and Anya shot over after the ball was knocked back to him from a cross into the area. The pressure eventually told as substitute Sam Winnall was brought down in the are and Vydra cooly converted from the spot in added time to round out the scoring.
