Rams Held By Robins
Attendance: 26, 525
Derby County were held to a goalless draw by Bristol City at Pride Park in front of the SkySports cameras on Friday night. Jamie Paterson shot over with a good early chance for the visitors and Matej Vydra and Johnny Russell both went close from freekicks with the later`s effort thumping against the bar. Luke Steele replaced Frank Fielding in goal for The Robins and saved well from Vydra and firmly struck effort from Tom Lawrence to keep the scores level. Substitute Cameron Jerome had his ankle clipped in the area in the closing stages but was booked for his theatrical fall under the challenge with The Rams having to settle for a point.
The visitors had more of the ball in opening stages and should have been in front on thirteen minutes when a loose ball in the area following a long throw dropped to Jamie Paterson unmarked but his side-footed strike was always too high from eight yards. Derby were next to threaten when Matej Vydra`s freekick was kept out by Frank Fielding and Curtis Davies then had a header cleared off the line by Aden Flint.
Johnny Russell smashed a free kick against the bar from inside the d on the edge of the area and Richard Keogh couldn`t get enough on the Russell shot to turn it on target from close range before Davies headed over as The Rams finished the half strongly.
Scott Carson saved from Josh Brownhill as the second half got underway and Luke Steele, on as a halftime replacement for Fielding, was soon called into action as the turned aside a Vydra effort after a pass from David Nugent gave him a sight of goal. Russell then burst into the are down the right with the ball pulled back to Tom Lawrence who smashed a shot at goal that Steele superbly pushed to safety.
Nugent`s square ball across the area picked out Vydra again at the mid-point of the half but Steele got his foot to the shot and Sam Winnall, on from the bench got his foot to Andreas Weimann`s low cross but couldn`t divert the effort on target. Cameron Jerome, another substitute, was brought down in the area by Flint but his theatrical fall didn`t help his case and he was booked for diving as Derby had to settle for a point as the game ended scoreless.
