Rams Keep Up Road Run
Attendance: 13, 973
Derby County took their chances to cruise to a 3-0 victory over Barnsley at Oakwell to move to fourth in the table. After the home side tested Scott Carson through Mamadou Thiam and Harvey Barnes, Tom Lawrence gave the lead after picking up a loose ball in the area and firing home before Matej Vydra added a second sweeping home after being picked out by Andreas Weimann. Brad Potts hit the bar after the break and Carson reacted superbly to keep out an Ike Ugbo effort before Weimann fired home a third in the closing stages to seal the victory.
Tom Huddleston and Craig Forsyth returned to the starting lineup for and The Rams started the better of the two sides with Matej Vydra`s deflected effort flying the wrong side of the post after some near buildup play. Barnsley had a spell of their own with Mamadou Thiam having an effort kept out by Scott Carson before Derby`s keeper had made a good a save from Harvey Barnes not long afterwards.
Barnes had another effort fly just wide from outside the area as the home side kept the pressure up but with six minutes to go until the break The Rams took the lead when Tom Lawrence picked up a loose ball inside the area and fired into the net. Five minutes later things got even better when Chris Baird released Andreas Weimann down the right and his pullback picked out Vydra who fired low into the net.
Barnsley came out brightly after halftime and they came close when Brad Pott`s long range effort struck the top of the crossbar and Ike Ugbo came closer still when a cutback in the area picked him out ten yards out but Carson made a superb reaction save to beat his shot away and maintain the two goal lead.
With time ticking down The Rams got a third goal when substitute Bradley Johnson headed a bouncing ball into the path of Weimann and his well struck effort from outside the area found the bottom corner of the net. Sam Winnall, also on from the bench against his old club, nearly added a fourth when Johnny Russell knocked a cross down but he lifted his effort the keeper and over the bar.
