Stubborn Ipswich Hold On For Win
Attendance: 24, 475
Derby County`s poor run against Ipswich Town continued as an early goal from Callum Connolly was enough to give the visitors all three points at Pride Park. Connolly got his head to a Martyn Waghorn corner and ball was adjudged to have crossed the line before Scott Carson parried against the bar and then being cleared.
The Rams saw more of the ball and applied pressure but with the visitors happy to sit deep and not leave their own half to defend their early lead they struggled to find a cutting edge. Andreas Weimann volleyed over from a Tom Lawrence cross before the young Welshman was shown a yellow card for simulation after going down in the area.
Connolly nearly made it two just after halftime when he was left in room at the back post but Carson kept his effort our and at the other end, after some neat play between Weimann and Matej Vydra, Tom Huddlestone`s effort was kept out at full stretch by Bartosz Bialkowski. Vydra threatened again after turning away from a defender on the edge of the area but his curling effort was the wrong side of the post and he had another effort from a free kick kept our by the visitor`s keeper.
The game was being played in one direction and another effort on the stretch from Vydra was inches wide but it was not to be for Derby and Joe Ledley fired over after substitute Johnny Russell`s run down the right with the final chance as Town took home the points.
