Matej Vydra scored a hat-trick as Derby County beat Middlesbrough 3-0 at the Riverside Stadium. Scott Carson`s superb reaction save from Britt Assombalonga kept the game goalless and Vydra struck just a minute later after cutting inside and playing a one-two before rifling a shot into the roof of the net. The home side twice came close to levelling the scores as halftime approached but two minutes after the restart Vydra stuck again from the spot after being brought down by Daniel Ayala following a quick break after The Rams won the ball back high up up the pitch. Ayala was shown his second yellow for a foul on David Nugget and Vydra scored his third when Darren Randolph sliced a clearance up in the air and was given no chance as the Czech striker volleyed home from close range.

Gary Rowett named an unchanged side and they were indebted to Scott Carson when a long throw from Cyrus Christie was flicked on and Britt Assombalonga's header form inside the six-yard area was superbly kept out by a reaction save from the goalkeeper. At the other end Matej Vydra opened his account on thirteen minutes when Andreas Weimann found him on the left edge of the penalty area and he played a one-two before firing an unstoppable left footed effort into the roof of the net.

Randolph kept out a Tom Lawrence effort after he cut in from the left although Boro were looking to force the game to get back on level terms before the break. Assombalonga`s header was the wrong side of the post and Carson saved from Marvin Johnson as they looked dangerous from set pieces. The final chance of the half came the home sides way when Christie`s deep cross was met by Fabio but he couldn`t keep his header down and The Rams lead at the break.

Middlesbrough were made to pay for their missed chances only two minutes after halftime when Derby won the ball back and ran straight at the heart of their defence. Nugent laid the ball to Vydra who was clipped by Daniel Ayala who was booked for the foul with the Czech striker calmly sending Randolph the wrong way from the spot.

Ayala was sent off for a second bookable offence on the hour mark after a late challenge on Nugent and his side`s misery was complete three minutes later when Randolph sliced a clearance up in the air and Vydra volleyed home from close range to complete his hat-trick. The game was over as a contest and Lawrence could have added a fourth when through on goal but his effort was straight at Randolph and The Rams went home 3-0 winners.
