Rams Ease To Rangers Win
Attendance: 23, 296
Tom Lawrence`s first goal in a Derby County shirt helped them to a straight forward 2-0 victory over Queen Park Rangers at Pride Park last night. After an uneventful first half Andreas Weimann escaped down the right and Matej Vydra tapped into an empty net at far post in added time to give The Rams the lead. Lawrence then struck after being setup by Weimann again and his low shot from the edge of the area found the bottom corner. David Nugget and Chris Martin came close as the game approached full-time in what was a comfortable victory.
Andreas Weimann replaced Bradley Johnson in the only change to the side but neither side could get into their stride as the half progressed with possession regularly being squandered before chances were created. Tom Lawrence looked lively down the left for The Rams but it was Joel Lynch who had the first effort on goal but his header was always too high to trouble Scott Carson. With the game seemingly destined to reach the break goalless Derby took the lead in added time. Tom Huddlestone released Weimann down the right and his ball across the area picked out Matej Vydra who converted at the far post.
QPR tried to get on the front foot after halftime but found themselves two goals behind eight minutes in when Weimann created room on the edge of the area and found Lawrence who took a touch before drilling a low shot across Alex Smithies and into the net.
David Nugent was denied but the visitor`s keeper not long afterwards and Lawrence had another shot kept out with Weimann shooting wide from the rebound as Derby took control. Chris Martin, on as a substitute, got in behind the defence but a superb challenge fro Alex Baptiste denied him as he looked set to score and there was a debut in the closing stage for 18-year-old Luke Thomas as he replaced Lawrence.
