Vydra Snatches Point For Derby
Attendance: 18, 192
Matej Vydra`s neat finish just after halftime was enough to give Derby County a point after a 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage in front of the SkySports cameras. Fulham dominated the first half but only had Oliver Norwood`s goal from a freekick to show for it and they were made to pay when Tom Lawrence clipped a ball through the defence to Vydra who slotted past David Button to level the scores. David Nugent had the chance to put his side in front when played through by a superb ball from Tom Huddlestone but Button kept his effort out and despite late pressure from Fulham they couldn`t find a winner despite having the ball in some dangerous situations.
Chris Baird replaced Andre Wisdom at rightback while Matej Vydra returned to the side after his hamstring issue as Gary Rowett made three changes to the side that lost to Reading before the international break. Nugent nearly got in on a header back to his keeper from Tomas Kalas but Fulham were on top for most of the half from there on in although they failed to test Scott Carson on a regular basis despite getting a number of dangerous balls into the area.
Carson did have to save from Floyd Ayite`s header going full length to push the header aside but he was beaten on the half hour mark as the home side took the lead. A freekick from Oliver Norwood hit Nugent`s arm in the wall with the referee awarding another freekck and this time the Northern Ireland international lashed a shot over the wall and into the roof of the net with Carson beaten in the middle of his goal.
Derby cam out looking more determined after the break and they were back on level terms five minutes into the second half when Tom Lawrence won the ball back high up the pitch before slipping a neat pass in between defenders to Matej Vydra who slipped a finish past David Button who came out to meet him.
Tom Huddlestone lifted a superb first ball over the Fulham defence to send Nugent through on goal but his shot was kept out by Button as a defender closed him down. The home side got back into their passing though and substitute Luca de la Torre looped a head over the top after some neat build-up play.
Fulham continued to press in the closing stages getting in behind the fullbacks in wide areas but a number of crosses fizzed through the area without being able to pick out a white shirt and Ayite fired well over when a pullback did reach him as The Rams held on for a point.
