Poor Rams Downed By Reading
Attendance: 25, 928
Derby County`s eight game unbeaten run was ended by Reading who won 4-2 at Pride Park ahead of the international break. Two early goals from Liam Moore and Sone Aluko but Reading in charge and they never looked catching The Rams on the break on numerous occasions. Roy Beerens scored the third just after halftime after a wayward backpass from Curtis Davies and despite Johnny Russell being gifted a goal it was soon four for the visitors as Modou Barrow converted at the far post after another swift counter attack. Scott Carson made another save to keep the score down and Chris Martin got a consolation goal as the game approached added time to round out the scoring.
Joe Ledley and Matej Vydra missed out as Gary Rowett shuffled his pack ahead of the international break and there were further changes needed as Richard Keogh had to be replaced by Alex Pearce with only eight minutes on the clock. A minute later Reading took the lead as Liam Moore rose highest in the area to meet a freekick and head his side in front. Just four minutes later things got worse for The Rams as Sone Aluko was played in behind the Derby backline and he stepped inside a defender before thumping shot into the far corner of the net.
Derby came out in the second half determined to get back into the match and Tom Lawrence forced a save from Vito Mannone with a volley from the edge of the area but any chance they had of fighting back was dashed on fifty-four minutes. Curtis Davies hit a wayward backpass straight to the feet of Roy Beerens and he took it around Scott Carson before rolling the ball into the empty net.
Reading were catching The Rams at will on the break as they pressed forward and Carson was to quickly to block an effort from Modou Barrow after a swift counteract left him with only the keeper to beat. Mannone threw the home side a lifeline with twenty minutes to go when he played the ball directly to a Derby player on the edge of the area and Johnny Russell`s effort found the net off the foot of the post but the game as put to bed on seventy-five minutes when Barrow tapped into the empty net at the far post after a low ball across the six-yard area.
Chris Martin was first to a low Andre Wisdom cross into the area to score from close range on ninety minutes but was nothing more than a consolation for his side as their winning run came to an abrupt end.
