Rams Come From Behind With Winnall Double
Attendance: 28, 565
Sam Winnall`s double helped Derby County to come from behind to beat Leeds United 2-1 at Elland Road. An early strike from Pierre-Michel Lasogga gave the home side the lead and they were on top for the rest of the half without causing Scott Carson any undue concern. The second was a more even affair with chances at both ends before Winnall converted from close range following Craig Forsyth`s low cross. The game was then turned on it`s head as Tom Lawrence was pushed over in the area and Winnall scored his second of the night from the spot as The Rams took the spoils.
Gary Rowett made changes to the side with Chris Martin and Sam Winnall replacing David Nugent and Matej Vydra up front in a 4-4-2 formation. It was Leeds who pressed from the opening whistle though and after winning the ball back Samuel Said played in Pierre-Michel Lasogga and the striker fired home at the near post to give them the lead. Ronaldo Vieira shot straight at Scott Carson after another break forwards but despite some dangerous positions for both sides neither goalkeeper had a save to make before the break following that effort.
Kemar Roofe shot over after cutting inside as the second half got underway and Curtis Davies couldn`t quite get his head to a corner inside the six-yard area as there were chances at both ends. Lasoga had to stretch to reach a Saiz cross but couldn`t find the target from close range on the volley.
Martin forced a save from Andy Lonergan and The Rams got themselves back in level terms with eighteen minutes to go when Craig Forsyth got free down the left and his low cross was converted by Winnall from six yards. With their tails up Derby then went ahead only eight minutes later when Tom Lawrence was bundled over on the edge of the area and Winnall calmly sent Lonergan the wrong way from the spot to win the game.
