Winnall Wins It
Attendance: 26, 048
A late strike from substitute Sam Winnall gave Derby County all three points as they beat Norwich City 2-1 at Carrow Road. Marco Stiepermann was instrumental for the home side, striking the bar early on, as they pushed The Rams back but David Nugent`s superb curling effort in added time gave his side the lead at the break. Tom Huddlestone`s effort was tipped over early in the second half but Norwich fought back and Timm Klose`s close range header levelled the scores going into the final twenty minutes. Bradley Johnson had a goal disallowed for offside as Derby finished strongly and Winnall tapped in after Angus Gunn could only divert a shot into his path with seven minutes left on the clock.
Bradley Johnson replaced Johnny Russell who missed out through injury but it was the home side who settled in the game the better of the two sides and they were inches away from taking the lead when Marco Stiepermann got in behind Andre Wisdom but his effort struck the underside of the bar and bounced to safety on seventeen minutes. Josh Murphy`s effort from outside the area wasn`t far and Cameron Jerome `s curling effort was the wrong side of the post as well as Norwich continued on the front foot.
After being pushed back for the majority of the half The Rams took the lead in added time after breaking forward from the back as Richard Keogh`s pass found David Nugent and he took a touch before curling a superb effort into the top corner giving Angus Gunn no chance in the home goal.
Tom Huddelstone`s effort from a dropping clearance was superbly tipped over by Gunn eight minutes after halftime and Norwich slowly took control again with Scott Carson just keeping our Stiepermann`s close range effort before it cross the line. The pressure eventually told though as Timm Klose nodded home at far post from Stiepermann`s cross with just under twenty minutes to go.
The Rams responded well to the goal and Johnson`s flicked effort was ruled out for offside to deny him a goal against his former club but he was involved in the winning goal with seven minutes to go when his firmly hit effort was pushed away by Gunn but only to the feet of substitute Sam Winnall who converted from close range to give this side the win.
