Goals from Matej Vydra and Bradley Johnson gave Derby County a 2-0 victory over ten mane Sheffield Wednesday at Pride Park as the moved up to eighth in the table. Vydra opened the scoring from the penalty spot inside the first five minutes after being pushed over in the area, a challenge the lead to Glenn Loovens being dismissed for denying a goalscoring opportunity. Tom Lawrence`s effort hit the post and Richard Keogh was also denied before Steven Fletcher and Barry Bannan went close at the other end. Johnson came off the bench and was on the end of a fast break with four minutes to go when he turned and fired home from inside the area to kill the game off.

Gary Rowett went with an unchanged side for the team who beat Forest last time out and they made another quick start to the contest when Matej Vydra went through on goal following David Nugent`s pass only to be pushed down by Glenn Loovens as he got into the penalty area. The referee pointed to the spot and, after Loovens was dismissed for the foul, Vydra calmly slotted home from to put his side ahead after five minutes.

Tom Lawrence was inches away from opening his Derby account after being played in by Nugent but his dinked finish over Westwood struck the post and the Wednesday keeper was out quickly to deny Richard Keogh after a lovely lofted ball from Tom Huddlestone sent him in on goal.

Steven Fletcher`s downward header wasn`t far away as the visitors had a spell of their own and Curtis Davies did well to challenge Gary Hooper when he looked to have a clear sight of goal to keep The Rams in front at the break.

Barry Bannan's effort from outside the area flew past the post after a probing move ended with the ball at his feet before Chris Martin, on in place of Nugent, got a stooping header to a corner but Westwood held the ball just in front of the line. Vydra miss-kicked from a deep cross from Johnny Russell and with the game entering the final five minutes the Scottish wideman was involved again as Derby put the game to bed. A fast break forward ended with Russell finding Bradley Johnson inside the area and the substitute turned and found the net with a low finish that Westwood couldn`t get enough to to keep out.
