Rams Thrashed By City
Attendance: 19, 473
Derby County showed their weak underbelly on the road again as Bristol City sent them home from Ashton Gate with a 4-1 hiding. Matej Vydra put The Rams in front from the penalty spot in the first half but they were fortunate to be in front at the break with Scott Carson making good saves from Jonathan Leko and Jamie Paterson before Cauley Woodrow levelled with a header on fifty minutes. Leko was brought down by a clumsy challenge from Richard Keogh just four minutes later with Bobby Reid scoring from the spot and despite a brief rally from Derby they were well beaten by the final whistle. Paterson`s freekick hit the underside of the bar before bouncing over the line and Famara Diedhiou`s neat finish completed the scoring.
Gary Rowett went with the same side who won so emphatically last time out and both sides showed their attacking intent as the game progressed. Bobby Reid`s header was saved by Scott Carson and Matej Vydra`s freekick clipped the outside of the post as there were chances at both ends. Cauley Woodrow forced a save from Carson before Vydra was brought down in the area by Frank Fielding and the Czech striker picked himself up to smash home the penalty off the underside of the bar on twenty-seven minutes.
The goal spurred the home side on and they dominated the remainder of half with Jonathan Leko`s shot being beaten away by Carson after he was picked out by Woordrow`s cutback from the byeline. Derby`s keeper then made a full length save to push away Jamie Paterson`s glancing header to keep his side in front at the break.
Marlon Pack`s thumping effort from thirty yards wasn`t far wide as the second period got underway and it wasn`t long until City were back on level terms when Woodrow headed home from Joe Bryan`s on fifty minutes. Things got worse for The Rams just five minutes later when Leko`s feet were too quick for Richard Koegh and he brought the on loan West Brom down inside the area with the referee pointing to the spot and Bobby Reid slotted home from the spot.
Derby had a spell of their own as they tried to get back into the match and Bradley Johnson`s header was inches wide before Fielding held a deflected freekick from Tom Lawrence. With seven left to play the result was put beyond any doubt when Paterson`s freekick from just outside the area clipped the underside of the bar and bounced over the line before being cleared. To rub further salt into their wounds The Rams were caught piling forward in added time and a long ball forwards found substitute Famara Diedhiou who ran into the area and curled home a neat finish to round off a miserable afternoon.
