Sharp Blunts Rams
Attendance: 26, 202
Defensive errors cost Derby County as they went down 3-1 against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane to go into the international break on a defeat. Scott Carson`s clearance only picked out Billy Sharp early on who then found the bottom corner of the net and Johnny Russell put through his own just before halftime to put his side further in trouble. The Rams went close with a couple of effort in between but it wasn`t until added time at the end to the match that they found the net when Craig Bryson`s neat header looked to give then hope. It wasn`t to be though as with Carson up to course chaos in the area The Blades cleared the ball and Sharp ran onto it to again find the empty net and secure the points.
The Rams got off the the worst possible start when Scott Carson scuffled a clearance after only four minutes and the ball fell into the path of Billy Sharp who found the bottom corner of the unguarded net with a first-time finish. Derby played mainly on the counter and Andreas Weimann fired narrowly over after one such move before Matej Vydra was denied by a last ditch tackle by John Fleck after running in on goal.
Johnny Russell had another effort as the half wore on but he made a bigger impact at the other end after he swung a right foot to rob a United player but the ball flew into the bottom corner beyond Carson to double the scoreline.
After the break Derby pushed forward to get themselves back into the game but the home defence dealt with almost everything that was thrown at them with Russell`s attempted lob and substitute Tom Lawrence`s curling effort the only real moments of threat.
Sharp had a low effort superbly kept out by Carson before the game reached a frantic finish in added time. Firstly Craig Bryson, on from the bench, guided a net header into the corner of the net from Bradley Johnson`s cross to give his side hope but with eight extra minutes played and Carson up to try to find an equaliser from a set piece United broke forward and Sharp again finished into an open net to put the game to bed.
