Nugent At The Double
Attendance: 15, 175
David Nugent`s double helped Derby County to 2-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers at the Macron Stadium for their second win in five days. Nugent struck twice in the opening twenty-one minutes converting crosses from Matej Vydra and Johnny Russell as The Rams dominated the early proceedings. Vydra and Andre Wisdom went close before the break with Bolton showing more after the interval but Scott Carson had little work to do until Gary Madine pulled one back in added time.
The Rams were unchanged from the midweek victory over Preston with new signing Tom Lawrence on the bench and they started brightly and were ahead after only eight minutes. Matej Vydra received the ball from a throw down the left and turn and clipped in an inviting ball that David Nugent was first to ahead of a defender to find the far corner of the net.
It got better on twenty-one minutes when Johnny Russell escaped down the right and stood the ball up to the back post where Nugent had the simple task of heading into the net from close range to double the lead. Vydra had two efforts as Derby continued to dominate one of which whistled just over the bar as the ball sat up nicely for him and Andre Wisdom went storming forward and cut back inside but scuffed his effort and the ball flew wide of the far post
Bolton showed a tougher edge as they came out for the second period but despite seeing more of the ball they failed to trouble Scott Carson. Russell was brought down when he looked set to take the ball into the area but only a yellow card was shown and Gary Madine had a penalty appeal waved away at the other end as the second half ticker by.
Lawrence was introduced from the bench at the midway point of the second half and he won himself some room just outside of the area but fired wide of the target after doing so. Madine did pull one back for the home side in added time with a neat finish after the ball broke to him in the area but The Rams saw out the last couple of minutes to take the points.
