Butterfield Snatches Late Point
Attendance: 29, 031
Jacob Butterfield`s late strike gave Derby County a point as they drew 1-1 with Huddersfield Town at Pride Park in front of the Sky Sports cameras. Colin Quaner gave the promotion chasing visitors the lead inside the opening ten minutes and they were content to sit back and soak up the pressure from that point onwards. They looked solid at the back and a blocked shot from Darren Bent was the only real moment of dancer unit Ikechi Anya`s shot was kept out by Danny Ward at the start of the second period. With time ticking down and the points looking to be heading back to Yorkshire a deflected effort from substitute Butterfield gave his side a share of the spoils.
After Friday`s disappointing display Gary Rowett made five changes to the side with Will Hughes and Ikechi Anya amongst those given their chance whilst Darren Bent replaced the injured David Nugget up front. After a quiet opening Huddersfield took the lead with the first attack of any real note on nine minutes, Martin Crainee was played in down the right and his low ball into the area was turned home by Colin Quaner just in front of Richard Keogh. Darren Bent looked to have put his side on level terms almost immediately but the flag was up for offside as he headed home Matej Vydra`s flick from close range.
The Rams saw a lot of the ball as the visitors were happy to drop deep and deny them space in front of goal and they mopped up a number of crosses into the area that failed to pick out Derby players. Bent was denied again as his close range effort was blocked by a defender after Tom Ince`s cross dropped to him and Vydra shot the wrong side of the post in the only other moment of note before the break.
Derby started the second half brightly as they attempted to get themselves back in the match and Ikechi Anya cut in from the left but was denied by a low save from Danny Ward and whilst the game was mainly played at one end the Huddersfield defence held The Rams at arms length for long periods.
Rowett made a triple change with twenty minutes to go introducing Abdoul Camara, Jacob Butterfield and Johnny Russell with the later looking lively as they looked to get their side to up the tempo. It was one of the substitutes that helped Derby to get back on level terms with two minutes to go as a headed clearance sat up nicely for Butterfield on the edge of the area and his shot took a deflection before finding the bottom corner of the net to level the scores and take a point.
