Late Goal Costs Rams Again

Referee:

A header from Daniel Panillos deep into added time denied Derby County the win as Nottingham Forest hit back to snatch a point in a 2-2 draw at the City Ground. Zach Clough had given forest an early lead when Scott Carson misjudged a ball into the area and The Rams weathered the Forest storm before goals from Matej Vydra and David Nugent in six minutes just after the break turned the scoreline around. Derby wasted a number of chances to seal the win and were made to pay in added on time as Panillos rose unchallenged to head home from a corner to ensure the spoils were shared at the final whistle.

Gary Rowett stuck with the 4-2-3-1 formation for his first game in charge but despite a lively opening The Rams found themselves behind only five minutes in when Daniel Panillos` deep cross from the right was met by Zach Clough in front of Scott Carson and he poked the ball into an unguarded note. Forest were on the front foot following the goal and Ben Osborn wasn`t fire away after a quick interchange of passes with Britt Asambalonga on the edge of the area the same player was too high with another effort not long afterwards.

Assombalonga`s sliced cross clipped the bar and Craig Bryson blocked from Ben Brereton as the ball fell invitingly into the youngster`s path. Derby stood firm during the pressure and they thought they were back on level terms when Bradley Johnson converted from close range after Jordan Smith dropped a corner at his feet but the effort was ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper. Tom Ince then curled an effort over the top after high pressing won the ball back on he edge of the Forest area but the home side went in a goal to the good at the break despite the upturn from Derby as the half progressed.

The Rams continued on the attack as the second half got underway and they equalised only two minutes in when Johnny Russell`s cross from the left was touched in by Matej Vydra. It got even better six minutes after that when Johnson`s ball into the area was met by David Nugent and his effort bear Smith and went in off the far post.

As the game continued to be played in Forest`s half Ince clipped the bar with a freekick, Johnson had an effort saved and Alex Pearce`s header was stopped on the line as Derby looked to kill the game off. Ince danced past a defender as he cut in from the right but his effort flew the wrong side of the far post and Jacob Butterfield was also denied by Smith with the home side hanging on for dear life as the minutes ticked by.

Forest forced their way back into the game in the closing stages as The Rams sat on their lead and Apostolos Vellios` fierce strike hit the post as they threw everything at Derby`s backline. With added time nearly over Pinillos was left virtually unmarked just eight yards out and he found the top corner with a firm header to level the scores again and deny Rowett victory in his first East Midlands Derby in charge.
