Rams Cruise To City Win

Derby County cruised to a comfortable victory against bottom of the table Bristol City with goals from Jeff Hendrick, Jamie Ward and Ben Davies handing them a 3-0 victory at Pride Park. Ward had a weak penalty easily saved inside the first four minutes as The Rams dominated from the off and Craig Bryson and Paul Coutts also came close before Jeff Hendrick opened the scoring when he volleyed back into the area and the ball avoided everyone to find the net. Ward scored from the edge of the area ten minutes into the second period to atone for his earlier miss as Derby continued to dominate and Conor Sammon somehow missed from close range after a low cross from Chris Martin gave him a glorious chance to get his name back on the score sheet. Davies finished the scoring in added time when his run down the left went unchallenged and his low cross beat Tom Heaton with the help of a deflection to complete a straight forward victory.

Craig Bryson was booked inside the opening minute after he appeared to trip himself up running at goal and Jeff Hendrick was brought down inside the area shortly afterwards with the referee pointing to the spot and giving The Rams an ideal opportunity to take the lead. However, Jamie Ward`s tame spot kick was easily saved by Tom Heaton down to this left to keep the scores level. Bryson took the ball around the Bristol keeper only to be denied by a last ditch block by Marvin Elliott and Conor Sammon cut the ball back to Paul Coutts but his effort struck the outside of the post as Derby`s dominance continued.

In a rare foray forward Sam Baldock drag a shot wide of the target as did Cole Skuse a few minutes later with neither effort troubling Frank Fielding. Derby`s pressure eventually told with just under ten minutes to go until the break when a clearance from a corner reach Jeff Hendrick on the edge of the box, he volleyed the ball back into the danger area and it avoided everyone and bounced into the net with Heaton beaten. Craig Forsyth whipped in a cross from the left that Chris Martin was inches away from in the last chance of the half as his side took their lead into the break.

The visitors looked to start strongly in the second period but Baldock and Paul Anderson both missed the target with efforts before The Rams increased their lead. Kieron Freeman won the ball back wide on the right to set his side going forward and good work from Sammon down the right saw him muscle his way inside before finding Ward with a ball to the far side of the area and the striker took a touch before firing under Heaton. Lewin Nyatanga cleared a Bryson effort from just in front of goal and Sammon somehow turned a low Martin cross over the top from close range. Steve Davies had a header saved at point blank range with the ball being cleared to safety after a scramble and substitute Ben Davies completed the scoring in injury time when his run down the left went unchecked and his low cross found its way through Heaton with the aid of a deflection.
