Rams End Poor Away Run

Derby County ended their recent miserable run of form on the road as they beat Bristol City 2-0 at Ashton Gate. Both goal came in three first half minutes as Jeff Hendrick converted Michael Jacobs` left wing cross from close range before a flowing move ended with Craig Bryson glancing home Gareth Roberts cross with a neat header to secure the victory. Adam Legzdins made saves from Sam Baldock and Steve Davies to keep his first clean sheet since earning his place in the side and The Rams ended a run of four consecutive defeats on the road to stay tenth in the Championship table.

Nigel Clough made three changes to the team with Mark O`Brien replacing the injured Jake Buxton, Gareth Roberts coming back into the side at leftback and Craig Bryson also returning from injury as The Rams went with five across midfield. Neither side took control in the early stages but Tom Heaton had to be alert to deny Michael Jacobs` clever flick and Adam Legzdins then had to beat away an effort from Sam Baldock who looked suspiciously offside.

Derby`s possession game began to take control and Will Hughes curled an effort over from the edge of the area after some neat build-up play. It wasn`t all one traffic through and Albert Adomah fired over the top from a tight angle after being setup by Ryan Taylor. After another spell of possession The Rams took the lead on thirty-four minutes when Jacobs` cross from the left was stabbed in by Jeff Hendrick from close range.

Just two minutes later Derby doubled their lead after a great move ended when Gareth Roberts crossed from the left and Craig Bryson got in front of his defender to glance a header across Heaton and into the far corner. The home side tried to hit back and Adomah sent Baldock through on goal but Legzdins was out quickly to save at his feet and John Brayford cut in and curled an effort just wide with the last effort of the half.

Former Ram Steve Davies came on at halftime but The Rams` backline was standing firm and there were fewer chances in the second period. Jacobs had a shot from twenty yards that took a deflection and Richard Keogh`s half-volley with just under twenty minutes to go was easily held by Heaton. Davies forced a save from Legzdins with a curling effort and the former Burton keeper made a point-blank save from Liam Fontaine`s header in the closing stages but The Rams kept the home side to record a clean sheet and claim the three points.
