Derby County's five game unbeaten run came to an end at London Road as they had Jake Buxton sent-off in a 3-0 defeat to Peterborough United. The home side took the lead on half-an-hour when Michael Bostwick spectacularly volleyed home from the edge of the area. The Robinson twice went close at the start of the second half curling an effort wide and then hitting the post before Adam Legzdins kept his side in it saving a penalty from Lee Tomlin. Buxton received his second yellow card in five minutes for a challenge on Boyd and Saido Berahino tied up the points with two goals in the final ten minutes to inflict a heavy defeat on Nigel Clough's team.

Gareth Roberts and Jeff Hendrick returned to the starting line-up for The Rams with Craig Bryson missing out with the knock he picked up in the midweek victory over Ipswich whilst Michael Jacobs retained his place in the side following his first start in the same match. Peterborough sat back at the start trying to deny Derby space but Richard Keogh headed wide from a Paul Coutts corner in an early chance. Will Hughes then won the ball back in midfield and freed Theo Robinson but his effort from twenty-five yards was wide of the mark. The home side slowly took control of the contest and George Boyd found Saido Berahino who shot wide of the near post with Adam Legzdins worried.

Peterborough then took the lead with half-an-hour gone when Hughes' clearance from a corner only reached the edge of the area and Michael Bostwick thumped home a spectacular volley despite Roberts' best efforts on the line to keep it out. With the pressure continuing Legzdins had to be at his best to keep the deficit at one goal as he turned a Boyd effort behind for a corner at full length before tipping a Berehino drive onto the crossbar to keep his side in it. Cononr Sammon dragged an effort wide after being played in by Coutts and Jacobs had a tame effort easily saved as halftime approached.

Robinson had the first effort of the second period but curled his effort wide of the mark and he went close again moments later when John Brayford laid the ball across the goal but his close-range effort struck the post. After a good start to the half The Rams had a penalty awarded against them just before the hour mark when Richard Keogh was adjudged to have fouled Boyd in the area but Legzdins was the hero keeping out Lee Tomlin's spot kick before the ball was put behind for a corner. Boyd was involved again with twenty minutes to go when he went down under the challenge of Jake Buxton who shown his second yellow card inside five minutes and was set-off.

Keogh did his best to keep the scores down with a superb last ditch tackle on Danny Swanson as the pressure from the home side increased and they took advantage of their numerical superiority when Berahino doubled the lead although Legzdins should have done better with his shot from the edge of the area. The on-loan West Brom player then put the game beyond any doubt in injury time when he fired home from a tight angle to give Peterborough a 3-0 victory.
