Attendance:

Rams Held By Sunderland

Nathan Tyson scored his first goal in a Derby County shirt to earn his side a 1-1 draw with Premiership Sunderland when he headed home a cross in the 89th minute of their friendly at Pride Park. Jamie Ward twice brought saves from Simon Mignolet whilst the visitors twice hit the post in an even first-half before James McLean was released down the left in the second period and fired low past Frank Fielding to break the deadlock. The Rams played some neat football at times and Tyson headed home in the last minute from a Michael Hoganson cross to level the scores.

After a quiet opening ten minutes the first chance of the game when Michael Jacobs burst through down the left and his low cross was intercepted by Carlos Cuellar who diverted the ball onto his own post with Theo Robinson waiting. Sunderland then had the next effort when James McLean found room and forced Frank Fielding into a reflex save to tip the ball onto the post as it bounced to safety. Jamie Ward had a couple of curling efforts well kept out by Mignolet as The Rams attacked again in between which Craig Gardener had again forced Fielding into a full length save and Cuellar slammed an effort against the post from the resulting corner but neither side could find the breakthrough before the break.

Will Hughes had the first effort of the second half after beating three defenders but he sliced his effort wide of the mark and Frazier Campbell lost control of the ball at the vital moment at the other end allowing Fielding and Richard Keogh to rob him and clear to safety. Kieran Richardson, a half time sub, played in McLean and as he closed on goal he beat Fielding with a low drive to give his side the lead on. A flurry of substitutes over the final twenty minutes broke the flow of the game somewhat but with the minutes ticking down two of the changes by Nigel Clough combined to level the scores. Michael Hoganson broke at pace down the left and his cross was headed home from close range by Nathan Tyson for his first goal in a Derby shirt to leave the sides all square at the end of the match.
