Rams Fall To Bluebirds

A wonder goal from Mark Hudson helped Cardiff City to a 2-0 victory over Derby County at the Cardiff City Stadium although The Rams can count themselves unlucky not to have taken anything from the game. Nathan Tyson looked sharp and was denied his first goal in a Derby shirt by an offside decision and a number of saves from David Marshall in the Cardiff goal before Joe Mason fired home a rebound against the run of play to give the home side the lead. Derby continued to press but a clearance from Frank Fielding fell to Hudson who shot from inside his own half and the ball sailed over Fielding`s head and into the net for a second goal. Jeff Hendrick, Steve Davies and Paul Green were all denied in the closing stages as Derby fell to their second defeat in a row.

Nathan Tyson and Jamie Ward came into the team after the weekend defeat by Middlesbrough and the former Nottingham Forest striker was involved in the early stages when he had a shot blocked at the near post. As Derby continued to apply the pressure a quickly taken freekick from Craig Bryson found it`s way through to Paul Green but his show was well saved by David Marshall in the home goal. Tyson was then involved again when his effort was ruled out for offside against Theo Robinson who had flicked on a cross from Ward before it reached him and denying him his first goal in a Derby shirt.

Aron Gunnarsson tested Frank Fielding from range when Jenny Miller knocked the ball down to him but The Rams` keeper got back well to tip his effort over the top and Green again threatened again at the other end after being set-up by Robinson but his effort from the edge of the area was easily saved by Marshall. Somewhat against the run of play Cardiff took the lead on twenty-four minutes when Kenny Miller turned inside the area and shot against the post, the ball hit Tom Naylor on the way back out and fell kindly for Joe Mason who duly fired home form close range. Tyson was then involved again with a dipping volley that wasn`t far over and a deflected shot that again came down just the wrong side of the bar as The Rams went in a goal behind at the break.

John Brayford was introduced at the break in place of Naylor for his first appearance in nearly two months and Green came to Derby`s rescue ten minutes into the half when a freekick caused chaos in the defence and Gunnarsson stabbed the ball goalwards only for the midfielder to clear to safety. Just after the hour mark Cardiff scored a spectacular second goal when Mark Hudson collected a clearance from Fielding well inside his own half and launched a long range shot back over the keepers` head and into the net to double the lead. The Rams kept on going forward despite the deficit and Jeff Hendrick`s header from close range was kept out well by Marshall before Steve Davies, on as a substitute, tested the keeper with a fierce freekick that he could only push back out and Green hit the rebound into the turf before it was tipped over the top again as Marshall was quick to react to ensure the clean sheet and secure the victory.
