Rams Settle For Draw

Derby County led twice at the Madejski Stadium but had to settle for a point after Adam Le Fondre scored two to give Reading a share of the spoils. After defeats in each of their last five visits to Berkshire The Rams looked to keep things tight at the back and chances were at a premium in the first half although Frank Fielding did pull of a fine save to keep out a Le Fondre header. In the second period Ben Davies` inviting delivery was flicked towards goal by Jason Shackell and Theo Robinson bundled home but the lead was short lived as Le Fondre volleyed home at the far post six minutes later. Tomas Cywka guided home a well placed volley from another Davies cross with fifteen minutes to go but Le Fondre headed home two minutes later to level again and there were no more goals in the closing stages.

Tomasz Cywka came in to replace the injured Steve Davies in the only change to the side who held Southampton at the weekend with Callum Ball also being named amongst the subs. Theo Robinson forced an early corner with a quick shot from the edge of the area that was deflected behind for a corner whilst Mikele Leigertwood broke forward at the other end but scuffed his shot from the edge of the area. Frank Fielding was called into action on eight minutes to keep out a low shot from Simon Church and Jason Shackell then headed away from under the crossbar when the same player got his head to a cross from Robson-Kanu. Fielding pulled off a top class save from Adam La Fondre when the Reading striker got his head to a Joseph Mills freekick in the last clear cut chance of the half and the sides went in level at the break.

Reading were seeing more the ball going forward but The Rams were defending well at the back and Jamie Ward was looking dangerous on the counter attack without the final ball to create any clear opportunities. With chances at a premium it was set-piece that led to the deadlock being broken when Ben Davies` dangerous delivery into the area was flicked on by Shackell and Robinson was first to the ball to scramble home from close range for his fourth goal of the season. At the other end the home side levelled the scores six minutes later when Le Fondre was first to a cross at the far post and he volleyed back across goal into the far corner giving Fielding no chance.

Conor Doyle replaced Ward with twenty minutes to go and The Rams took the lead again five minutes later when another delivery from Davies was met by Tomasz Cywka who guided the ball beyond Adam Federici on the volley. Unfortunately for Derby the lead was short lived again when Robson-Kanu escaped down the left and his crossed picked out Le Fondre who headed firmly past Fielding to level the scores for a second time. Callum Ball came on for Cywka with just under ten minutes to go to add some physical presence up front but not further chances were created in the closing stages and the sides finished level to claim a point apiece.
