A Derby County XI eased to a 4-1 victory over Belper Town at Christchurch Meadow last night with goals from Theo Robinson, Callum Ball, Adam Wixted and Andy Dales. Dean Leacock made a return from injury to play the first-half and Derby named a side with five players with first team experience against their Evo-Stik League opponents.
Theo Robinson opened the scoring inside on seven minutes with a neat header from a Tomasz Cywka cross but Belper struck back through Deon Meikle with a low shot from the edge of the box just before the half-hour mark. Derby got back on the front foot and both Ball and Cole went close with efforts from the edge of the box. Cywka hit the post with a firm effort and Ball had another effort well save by Andy Richmond before Ball grabbed the lead back for his side with a looping header in the final minute of the half from a Josh Lelan freekick.
Half-time substitute Wixted made it 3-1 in the opening stages of the second period when he created room for himself on the edge of the box and rifled a low into the bottom corner of the net. Cywka couldn`t find the target with a glorious chance and Belper got themselves back into proceedings with Lee Morris forcing a sharp save out of Legzdins. Wixted and Cywka both had chances to increase Derby`s lead before Dales rounded out the scoring with three minutes to go when he slotted home from six yards for his sides fourth.
Derby County: Legzdins (Severn 70), Jones (Galinski 38), Sharpe, Witham, Lelan, Leacock (Wixted 46), Cywka, Robinson (Dales 59), Ball, Doyle (Bola 59), Cole.
