Derby County travel to London Road on Saturday, determined to make quick amends for their poor showing last time out, which resulted in a 3:0 defeat to Cardiff City at Pride Park on Wednesday night.
Peterborough also lost in midweek, although their defeat - 2:1 to league leaders Southampton - was more predictable and, to a certain extent, more creditable, as they were at one stage 2:0 down with only ten men.
Neither side has been in very good form recently, Derby's 3:1 victory over Portsmouth last Saturday being The Rams' only victory in the last seven games, while Peterborough have now themselves lost three in a row.
The last meeting between these teams at London Road, in January 2010, resulted in a 3:0 victory for The Rams, with on-loan striker D J Campbell notching two of the goals.
Nigel Clough is concerned about his side's injury crisis, although he hopes that the two week break after Saturday's match will see an improvement on that front. The Rams' boss said on Friday: 'John Brayford will be back after the international break and Shaun Barker will not be far behind, so we just have to get through Saturday and go from there.' He also believes that Derby's younger players will benefit from the situation: 'We are going to keep faith with the youngsters. The experience the likes of Mason Bennett & Callum Ball got on Wednesday was not a nice one...but they will be better for it in future'.
Peterborough manager, Darren Ferguson, remains defiant, despite his team's recent poor run of results: 'Things change quickly in this league. We had the chance to go second...less than a fortnight ago, but now we are down in thirteenth. People...start fearing the worst if they lose a few, but it is essential that you stick to your beliefs regardless of results'.
Peterborough have an injury crisis of their own, being down to only sixteen fit men, and, like The Rams, could also include a fifteen year old on Saturday. With Lee Tomlin, Lee Frecklington, Joe Newell, Dave Hibbert & Scott Wootton all unavailable, due to suspension or injury, Jaani Gordon-Hutton is very likely to be involved against Deby.
Former Forest player Sinclair, who joined Posh from Macclesfield Town in August, has scored twice in Peterborough's last two games. He found the net against Watford in the 3:2 defeat last Saturday, and came off the bench to repeat the feat against Southampton on Tuesday. He is set to start the match against Derby on Saturday.
As a result of Russell Anderson's withdrawal from the action on Wednesday, due to a tweaked hamstring, The Rams' injury list was extended to include ten members of the first team squad. The good news for Saturday is that two of those absentees, striker Theo Robinson and central defender Mark O'Brien, are both hopeful of being available. The right back position, however, remains a real quandry for Clough, who may have to persevere with Wednesday's substitute, Jake Buxton, in the absence of Anderson and Brayford.
Although many Rams' fans remain unconvinced about the pacy striker's overall footballing abilities, there is no doubt that he adds something to the attack when he plays. Undoubtedly quick, he has impressed the management team with his willingness to keep on running for every one of the ninety minutes, thereby making himself a real nuisance to the opposition's defence and providing opportunities for his more gifted team mates to take advantage of opponents' slips. He was certainly missed up front against Cardiff.
