Rams boss Paul Jewell has confirmed media reports that the Rams are in the hunt for Argentine striker Emanuel Villa from Mexican Premier League side UAG Tecos

The 25-year-old striker, born in Santa Fe, who is currently the clubs top scorer with 10 goals in 28 appearances will fly into the UK this week for further talks with the Pride Park club.

Jewell said: 'This is a deal we have almost completed. The player will be flying in later this week for a medical and barring any hitches he will sign for us.'

Villa started his career at Club Atlético Huracán in the Primera Division Argentina in 2001 before being transferred two years later to Atlético Rafaela. Following Rafaela's relegation, Villa returned to the Primera the following season, joining Rosario Central.

In 2006 he was signed by Atlas in Guadalajara, scoring 14 goals in just 25 games before moving to he current club.

It may only be the 1st of January but Jewell has been busy in his transfer negotiations and he also revealed that the Rams were 99% certain of signing a Premier League player this month.
