Pride Park return for Nyatanga
Rams boss Paul Jewell is looking at bringing young Welsh international defender Lewin Nyatanga from his loan deal at Barnsley to bolster the Pride Park backline.
The 19-year-old defenders loan spell at Oakwell expires next month and Tykes manager Simon Davey is keen to keep hold of the youngster but Jewell wants him back at Pride Park.
He also wants to check on all the five Rams players who are currently out on-loan, Nyatanga and Jon Macken (Barnsley), Mo Camera (Norwich), Bob Malcom (QPR) and Michael Johnson at Sheffield Wednesday.
Jewell said: "We will be bringing Lewin back and I want to give all players the opportunity to show me they are good enough to be here," said Jewell.
"Things can change very quickly in football but I would like them all back to have a good look at them.
Burton-born Nyatanga has made 23 appearances for Barnsley this season while Macken, 30, has played nine times but has yet to score.
The loans of Mo Camara and Bob Malcolm are also up on January 1. Left-back Camara, 32, has made six appearances for Norwich and midfielder Malcolm, 27, has figured seven times for QPR.
Johnson completed a three-month stay at Sheffield Wednesday after yesterday`s 0-1 home loss game against Watford and the Owls are keen on signing him on an 18-month deal.
Rams boss Jewell was in the crowd to check out Johnson yesterday and with the veteran central defender out of contract at Derby in the summer, a decision is needed quickly by Jewell.
