Rams take-away Currie

Rams boss Billy Davies has decided not to offer Darren Currie a contract for next season and he has been released.

The winger is a free agent after his contract with Ipswich Town expired at the end of the season, and he spent two months on loan with the Rams, helping their push for the Premiership, making eight appearances and scoring one goal. Currie's solitary goal for the Rams came in a 2-0 win over Leeds United on the last day of the Championship season.

Currie had made no secret of the fact he would like to join the Rams on a permanent basis in the Premier League but manager Billy Davies has ruled out offering the 32-year-old a contract.

Currie, whose previous clubs include Brighton and Hove Albion, Wycombe Wanderers and Barnet, joined Derby on loan after a 10-day trial with American side LA Galaxy.

Davies said his hunt for players will begin in earnest as soon as he has met with Chairman Peter Gadsby. The Rams have been linked to a number of players since gaining promotion, but Davies has said he doesn`t want to rush new signings he want to make sure they are right for derby County.

'We have got to sit down this week and discuss the situation,' said Davies.
'We will meet and reflect on a very successful season and also look to the future and where we go from here.'
