Howard wins Rams supporters award

The 2007 Derby County Supporters' Clubs' player of the year prize at their awards night was taken out by Steve Howard.

The Rams striker polled the most votes from members of the Derby County Supporters' Club's branches nationwide to become their 2006/07 player of the year.
Rams boss Billy Davies and all the first team squad joined over 350 fans for a tremendous evening at Pride Park Stadium.

Club chairman Peter Gadsby welcomed everyone to the event and thanked all Derby supporters for their 'magnificent backing' before the awards took place.

Also on Tuesday there were also well deserved awards, handed out by Rams stars, for a representative of each branch of the Supporters' Club in honour of their passionate support of the club over the season. The Rams have some very passionate supporters, in the UK and all over the world and their focus, like the team is promotion to the Premier League.

The biggest cheer of the evening was for manager Davies when he came onto the stage and told the assembled crowd: 'Rest assured these players stood behind me will be giving their all in the remaining two games to try and finish this job off and take the club into the Premiership."

It was the big striker`s second trophy in a week, followed hot on the heels of the player of the year prize Howard picked up at the club's annual Awards Night. The Rams leading scorer Howard beat off competition from Darren Moore, Stephen Bywater, Marc Edworthy and Dean Leacock to win the award, with midfielder Giles Barnes winning the Young Player of the Year award.

With only two games to go, the road to the Premiership starts live on Sky TV this Sunday afternoon with a trip to Selhurst Park to play Crystal Palace, followed by a home game against Leeds United next Sunday.
