Derby manager Phil Brown has taken South African international utility player Phil Evans on a two-week trial.
The 25-year-old, currently on the books with South African top-flight outfit SuperSport United, is expected to play for the Rams in a behind-closed-doors game against Rochdale at Derby's Moor Farm.
Evans has nine caps for his country and Brown said the player could operate in the centre of midfield, at right-back or in the centre of defence.
'He's also a bit of a set-piece specialist,' said the Rams boss. 'He's coming over here with a view to a permanent move.'
'There's no doubt it's going to be tough at Derby,' said Evans.
'But I'm looking forward to the challenge and I'll give it my best.'
