Newspapers today have reported the Rams will sign 32-year-old Darren Currie on loan until the end of the season. The former Ipswich midfielder has been on a two week trial at American side LA Galaxy, the new home of the Beckhams, but return`s today after a 24-hour flight delay, and will join the Rams on loan for the remainder of the season.
It`s reported Rams boss Billy Davies is looking to take Currie on a permanent basis if the loan spell proves fruitful. He is due to watch Derby play QPR at Pride Park tonight but will have tomorrow off to recover before joining his new team-mates on Thursday when they return for training.
Currie was Ipswich Town`s 'Player of the year` last season, and he could then make his Derby debut against Cardiff City on Saturday.
He played three games while with LA Galaxy, but Currie does not intend to return to America in the summer, preferring the intensity of English football. The midfielder was the Tractor-boys £250,000 signing from Brighton in December 2004 and was the leading crosser and assist-maker for the Portman Road side last season when he played in every match.
Currie will not be missed by the Rams fans, he is said to be the most tattooed footballer in English football, with 12 tattoos of various tribal designs, the names of his wife Emma, his daughter Bella, his brothers, the VII which was a previous shirt number at one of his clubs as well as his initials in Chinese, and his nickname 'Ruby'.
