Derby County Vital Poll results

The Derby Vitalfootball poll result in the question 'What is you favourite Derby County moment` has been won by Derby County`s first league Championships in 19971-72 with 41% of the vote from our site readers.

Brian Clough and Peter Taylor were at the helm when the Rams won the 1971-72, Division One League Championship. The Baseball ground was a fortress that season one losing once to Newcastle United 0-1, and the season also included a double over near neighbours Nottingham Forest, 2-0 at the City Ground and 4-0 at home. The Rams ended their season with a huge 1-0 victory at the Baseball Ground, John McGovern on target in front of 39,420 fans. The title was official won on May 8, 1972, with Clough away on holiday in Spain with his Derby side. Back home Leeds United and Liverpool failed to get the results necessary in their last games and the Rams clinched the title.

In joint second spot are the Rams League Championship 1974-75, and Derby 4 Real Madrid 1 - European Cup in 1975, both with 14%. With the high profile signings of Francis Lee and Bruce Rioch, Derby repeated their League success in the 1974-75 season, and this time under Dave Mackay. The European game was the following, 1975-1976, and the Rams made another big name signing in Charlie George, Rams beating the mighty Real Madrid in the European Cup. In one of the greatest games at the Baseball Ground, Charlie George scored a hat-trick as Derby ran out 4-1 winners.

The rest of the votes were - FA Cup Win - 1946 11%, Derby 4 Forest 1 - 1979 10%
Spurs 3 Derby 5 - FA Cup 4th Round 1973 10%

Peter Taylor, great manager but a little to much of buying players he likes (Stuart Green for example follows him everywhere now)
