With the Rams sitting pretty at the top of the table, Paul Peschisolido is hoping to show Billy Davies he's worth a new contract at Pride Park over the next three months, but he first has to get into the side to show his wears.
The 35-year-old striker is out of contract at the end of the season and his future at the club is in doubt, and he is unsure if he will be offered a new deal with the Rams. Davies has said the situation will be reviewed at the end of the campaign and the Canadian is determined to convince the boss he is worthy of an extension to his deal.
'I don't think the contract will be there at the end of the season,' said Peschisolido.
'But there are a few months left in the season and, possibly, I can change people's minds.
'It would be nice but I'm just enjoying my football and waiting to see what happens.
'I still feel I can do a job and make an impact.
'The manager has told me I'm still part of the plans, so it's for me to go out there in the next few months and show him what I can do.
'Hopefully, I'll get given opportunities and I can help the Rams get to the Premier League.'
Peschisolido has been in English football since Birmingham City signed him from Canadian club Toronto Blizzard in 1992, and has also played for Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion, Fulham and Sheffield United.
The likeable striker, who joined the Rams in 2004, has a great deal of respect for Davies, and believes he has worked wonders for the Pride Park side since is arrival last year.
'I've learned a hell of a lot from him in the last six months, it's fantastic,' said Peschisolido.
'He's changed the mentality of everyone at the club and now it's a winning one.
'He's just changed everything, discipline, tempo in training, and his attention to fine detail is fantastic.
'There's no mistaking the fact that, since his arrival, we've gone from a bottom four side to now be top of the table.
'His knowledge of the game is fantastic. He knows it inside out."
He added: "He's superb. I don't want to say too much because he'll end up leaving for Chelsea!'
Peschisolido is a favourite with the Rams fans and he gets the job done when selected, his winner against Bristol Rovers in the cup shows that. But at 35 is he worthy of a new contract? All Rams fans hope that at the end of the season they will be in the Premiership, then the Rams hierarchy can sit down and look at the squad and see if there is a spot for the Canadian.
