Irvine Wants Thorne To Stay
George Thorne may have been the target of a bid fro Derby County and handed in a transfer request but new West Brom manager Alan Irvine wants the midfielder to remain at The Hawthorns to fight for his first-team place.
West Brom rejected an undisclosed bid from The Rams for the 21-year-old who starred as they reached the play-off final last season after moving to the iPro Stadium on loan. Thorne signed a three-and-a-half year deal before the move but has made it clear he wants to be playing first-team football next season and has handed in a transfer request. The Baggies turned down the request before Irvine was appointed with the new manager saying he wants to see Thorne in action for him telling the Birmingham News:
"I don`t think we should be in a position where we`re letting players go, I would like to see all of the players, see what they can do in pre-season training and make decisions from there. I wouldn`t be keen on losing young, good players. I would have thought any player would be thinking 'this might be a chance for me to stake a claim for a regular place`."
