Rams Bring In Smith

Derby County have acted quickly to replace outgoing rightback John Brayford with Adam Smith on a season long loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur.

Smith has eleven England Under-21 caps to his name, has spent time on loan at Millwall and Leeds United and has racked up 102 first-team games in total as well as representing England at all youth levels from Under-16 onwards. The youngster signed a new three deal with Spurs in the summer and has been allowed to leave on a season long loan to gain more experience. Nigel Clough reacted to the departure of first choice rightback Brayford by striking a deal with Tottenham to bring him to Pride Park and told dcfc.co.uk:

"He`s a young player with a lot of potential and we`ve been very impressed with what we`ve seen of him over the last few years. Whenever we`ve seen him in the Championship or on international duty he`s stood out as a very solid right back, and someone that likes to get forwards as well. As soon as we were aware John was going to leave last week we identified Adam as someone we would like to bring in."
