Keogh On The Mark In Ireland Win
Richard Keogh made his first start for the Republic of Ireland on Sunday and scored the first goal in their 4-0 victory over Georgia at the Aviva Stadium whilst teammates Jeff Hendrick and Conor Sammon also added to their caps.
After missing out as an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw with England at Wembley last Wednesday Keogh was named in the starting line-up for the friendly in Dublin on Sunday. Georgia were reduced to ten men by the sending off of their goalkeeper after 19 minutes and Keogh rose highest to head home the opening goal just before the break. Hendrick and Sammon came off the bench in the second half to each set up a goal for Robbie Keane as Ireland cruised to a comfortable victory. Talking to dcfc.co.uk about the win Keogh said:
"It was the perfect day in many ways but I`m not getting carried away because I know I have a lot of hard work ahead of me to become a regular for my country. To get a goal and a clean sheet was probably the dream scenario, and I`m just glad I managed to help the team to get a win which sets us up nicely for the important World Cup Qualifier against the Faroe Islands on Friday."
