Rush - Baptiste Wages Too Much

With transfer target Alex Baptiste looking set to sign for Bolton Wanderers chief executive Sam Rush has said that The Rams were not willing to meet the wage demands of the defender and so missed out on his signing.

Nigel Clough has said that the centre of defence is one of the positions that he is looking to strengthen and Alex Baptiste had previously played under him at Burton Albion and was one of his top targets to fill the role. Reports suggest the player is set to join Bolton following a medical and with their parachute payments still in place next season it looks as though they have been able to find the money to meet his wage demands. Talking to the Derby Evening Telegraph about the deal Rush said:

"I spoke to his agent and with the best will in the world; the money he was asking for was eye-watering. I don`t think many clubs in our division could afford him. There is a difference between ambition and bad management. I don`t think Derby fans would have thanked me for bringing him in on that kind of money."
