Sammon Aims For More Goals
Conor Sammon has enjoyed his first season at Pride Park following his transfer from Wigan Athletic but was frustrated not to add more goals to his game.
Sammon joined The Rams in a £1.2 million deal in the summer transfer window in August and instantly went into the side scoring on his home debut in the 5-1 victory against Watford. Overall Sammon made 47 appearances scoring 9 goals including the winner against Millwall on the final day of the season to lift Derby up to tenth in the table.
The striker had a tough time of things as the season progressed with some of the crowd turning against him but he continued to keep his place in the side and his form was good enough to earn him a call-up to the Republic of Ireland squad and his first full cap against Poland in February. Talking to the Derby Evening Telegraph about the season Sammon said:
'It's been an absolutely pleasure for me and I've enjoyed every minute. I wouldn't change anything. I know my game is about more than scoring goals and I love being a target man for the team. But I want to add lots more goals to my game and get more winners like I did against Millwall, because it's a sweet feeling.'
