O'Connor Signs Up

Derby County have signed James O'Connor from Doncaster Rovers for an undisclosed fee with the defender putting pen to paper on a two year deal with the option of a third year.

The 27-year-old has played most of his career at rightback but can operate anywhere across the backline and will bring some versatility to The Rams defence with his ability to cover a number of positions. O'Connor started his career at Aston Villa before joining Bournemouth and then moving on to the Keepmoat Stadium where he spent six years making over 200 appearances for the Yorkshire club.

O'Connor lost his place in the side last season and with Doncaster's relegation from the Championship Nigel Clough made his move to bring the player to Pride Park. Speaking to dcfc.co.uk about the deal Clough said:

"Like all of the players we`ve brought into the squad this summer, we`ve admired James for some time and think he will be a very good addition to the squad. He`s versatile and can play right across the back four, and it`s great to have someone like that in the squad who can do a job in a number of positions."
