Barker's Rehabilitation Continues
Shaun Barker's long road to recovery is continuing and despite knowing that he will not play any part in the new season he is looking forward to the hard work ahead after a successful appointment with a knee specialist last week.
Barker dislocated his knee-cap and rupturing medial ligaments, anterior cruciate ligaments and posterior cruciate ligaments in the victory over Nottingham Forest at Pride Park and there were some fears that he would not make a full recovery but after a recent operation to clear out some scar tissue from the knee things are looking good for the club skipper. Barker is now able to walk without the use of crutches and despite knowing he has a long way to go he told the official site:
'I've got some independence back now after a few months and although my progress is slow, it's going well. I can drive again now and little steps along the way like that give me a massive boost, because I don't think people realise how tough it is being on crutches for three months."
