Rams Capture Keogh
Derby County have strengthened their defence with the signing of Coventry City captain Richard Keogh for an undisclosed fee on a three year deal. There were a number of clubs interested in the former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international with Cardiff City looking to be in pole position to sign Keogh but The Rams had a bid accepted earlier in the week and Nigel Clough is delighted to have finally secured his signature.
Reports suggest Derby may have paid more for Coventry's two time player of the year than they got for the sale of Jason Shackell but the fee is officially undisclosed as with many transfers nowadays. Clough has confirmed that Keogh will wear the captain's armband next season in the absence of Shaun Barker and talked to dcfc.co.uk about the signing saying:
'Everyone knows we have been looking to strengthen the central defensive area of the team and we believe Richard fits the bill in every respect, so we're delighted to get one of our top targets on board.
Despite Coventry's relegation last season, he was a commanding presence at the heart of their defence and he has both very good leadership qualities and the right sort of attitude to fit into our squad."
