Friday Night Football?

Friday Night Football?

Following the clash with Nottingham Forest being moved for coverage by SkySports Derby County have also made the slightly puzzling announcement of three of their home games being moved to a Friday night. The games with Hull City, Crystal Palace and Bristol City have all been moved from the more traditional 3pm kick-off to a 7.45pm start on a Friday night.

With nothing being said about TV coverage or other reasoning behind the switch it seems a slightly odd change for the club to make especially after the response to the Thursday night encounter with Leicester City last season. Whilst night matches do tend to have a better atmosphere is there another reason behind this move? Friday nights have never been a football night, unless you're from Tranmere/Southend, and this move wouldn't appear to help with brining younger fans to the games as has been stated with previous experiments with home matches.

Could this be a ploy to make fans spend more money before the game? If you, as a fan, have to rush home from work and then straight out to the match but still need to eat the easy choice would be to grab something on the way to the match or from the concourse before kick-off. Similarly with a number of matches being moved to 1pm kick-offs on Saturday the same outcome may occur. Never being one for conspiracy theories I'll leave the decision up to you but Friday night matches do seem an odd choice......
