With Chris Maguire joining Sheffield Wednesday, Steve Davies confirming he will be leaving the club and Lee Croft and Miles Addison reportedly close to sealing deals to take them away from Pride Park the transfer dealings at Derby County are starting to gather pace.
Manager Nigel Clough sees a goalscorer as his main target after bringing in Michael Jacobs from Norhtampton Town to provide more depth in the wide midfield areas. Clough had already spoken at the end of last season about wanting to bring in a striker who score twenty goals a season but with the added pressure of joint top scorer Davies rejecting a new contract and being put up for sale he now sees this as a priority area to bolster the squad. Talking to the Derby Evening Telegraph Clough said:
'The kind of striker we are looking for usually costs about £1.5m to £2m. We haven't got that at the moment but we'll get the best we can. We'll look at loans, anything that will help us get a striker in. But once again, they have to be better than the ones we've got.'
