Green Going To The Euros

Former Derby County midfielder Paul Green has been called up to the Republic of Ireland`s squad for the European Championships after Birmingham City midfielder Keith Fahey received the results of a scan on a groin problem. Green was not named amongst the original squad but was named as a standby and will now travel with the squad to the Ukraine and Poland for the championships. After feeling his groin in the warm-up before the friendly with Bosnia on Saturday Fahey went for a scan with an FAI spokesman saying:

"The FAI medical team have just received the results of the scan which showed unfortunately that his groin strain was persisting. The results were discussed with the player and he agreed that would not recover fully in time for Euro 2012. As a result, he is departing from the squad and Paul Green is being called in."
