Fielding Looking Forward To Rest

Frank Fielding is looking forward to a summer of rest despite his disappointment at missing out on the Olympic squad and the outside chance of a backup spot for England`s squad for the upcoming European Championships. Having rumoured to be under consideration as one of the overage players for the Olympic squad it has become clear this week that the keeper will not feature in the final lists under consideration for the competition.

It was always a long shot that Fielding would be named amongst the backup keepers for the European Championships, the surprise inclusion of John Ruddy for the squad raised a free eyebrows and even with the Norwich City keeper pulling out due to a broken finger to be replaced by standby Jack Butland it is unlikely that the FA will name another standby meaning Fielding has a summer off after playing the Under-21 European Championships last year. Talking to the Derby Evening Telegraph in relation to his time off Fielding said:

'Obviously, I'm disappointed to miss out but I do feel I need a bit of a break. I think the gaffer (Nigel Clough) is quite glad I'm getting a break, too. It's been a long season, which came after a summer of football. I barely got any time off last year, so this break is much-needed."
