Whilst there is still a long way to go in his recovery Shaun Barker has said he is making progress following the surgery to repair his knee back in April. Barker suffered a dislocated knee cap, ruptured medial ligaments, anterior cruciate ligaments and posterior cruciate ligaments in his right knee during the 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest and is set to miss the entire 2012/13 season whilst his rehabilitation continues.
It is the type of injury that could have easily ended his career but Barker saw a specialist afterwards and underwent surgery fairly soon after the injury occurred in order to carry out the major repair work needed to reconstruct his knee. Talking to dcfc.co.uk about his recovery Barker said:
"I had about 50 staples in my knee and I think everyone who saw the picture on saw the extent of surgery that had gone on. It is a major injury and they had to do everything in the knee that was possible to get me right again"
"It has settled down a lot now and the swelling has gone down too, and I've been out-and-about although I still can't put any weight on my right leg. I saw the specialist recently and he was happy with just how well I was moving and getting about, so that was really positive news in the very early stages of recovery."
