Davies To Leave

Nigel Clough has said that Steve Davies will be allowed to leave Pride Park this summer should the right bid come in after the striker turned down the offer of a three year contract.

Despite missing a large chunk of last season with a fractured skull Davies still managed to be The Rams` joint leading scorer with 12 goals and he will leave Clough looking for another striker after already stating that a proven goalscorer is on his shopping list for the summer. After sticking by the player through a number of injury plagued seasons Clough will be disappointed to see Davies move on and told dcfc.co.uk:

'It's got nothing to do with financial reasons - it's purely down to family circumstances. It is a genuine family reason and we respect Steven for that. I know some people will be sceptical about that but they shouldn't be."

'We have to accept it and move on. Technically, he's got a year left on his contract now and we're not in a position to let people run out (leave on a free transfer), so we'll get as good a fee as we can for him and look to replace him.'
