By way of a disclaimer I`d like to add that I am merely a football fan, I`m not a pundit and I don`t get paid to give my opinions, let`s face it what do I know? But seeing as I`ve been asked here we go.
Right my team of the Team of the Season - ooh where to start? Let`s just give it to Southampton shall we? There you go. Right where`s the Bristol Cream? No? Okay then - I suppose that would be too easy - or would it? You see, looking at The Championship table, Nigel Adkin`s Southampton would be the obvious choice and they probably deserve it - even when they`ve not been firing on all cylinders, they`ve picked up results and kept the momentum going and at this stage of the season who apart from die hard Pompey fans would argue against them going up automatically?
But Southampton (adopts Ant and Dec voice and mannerisms) 'It`s not you'. Watford however 'it might be you' Actually it`s not, but I could have gone for The Hornets. After his side`s shaky start - Sean 'any chance of a strepsil?' Dyche, is doing a great job on a relative shoestring and with a very young side
Hull City fans after losing manager Nigel Pearson may have thought their season might go into in free fall; however the appointment of Nicky Barmby has appeared to galvanise The Tigers and they have flourished.
Reading are another team who after the disappointment of losing in the Playoff Final and losing striker Shane Long to West Brom have after a shaky start begun to show the form that saw them storm into the play offs last season. I`d be surprised if they don`t finish in the top 6 this time round.
But my team of the season so far are Crystal Palace. Dougie Freedman, after keeping the ship afloat last campaign has steered The Eagles out of dangerous waters of the lower half of the table and into the crystal blue of the top 10 - Don`t forget Freedman`s team also knocked United out of the Carling Cup in a victory which owed much to one of the greatest goals ever witnessed at Old Trafford, a Darren Ambrose ripsnorter from 'fully' 35 yards. Why do commentators say that by the way? So there you go, my Championship team of the season (so far of course) is Crystal Palace. Right, now seriously where is the Bristol Cream….
